Grove of the Willow Wood is a tradional coven with a lineage reaching back more than thirty years. As a part of the Ravenwood Tradition, we honor the work of our Elder High Priestess, Lady Sintana and her High Priest, Lord Merlin. Lady Sintana came from Ohio and formed Ravenwood in Little Five Points area of Atlanta in 1977. She won many court battles fighting for the recognition of Wicca as a ligitimate religion.
In 2000, Lady Sintana passed the role of responsibility of the church and seminary to her initiates, Lady Larina and Lord Gaelin. As High Priestess and High Priest, Lady Larina and Lord Gaelin became the leaders of Ravenwood and continued the mission of education and outreach, while providing a sanctuary and safehaven for those interested in studying the Old Religion and entering the priesthood.
On Lammas 2008, Lady Jasmine and Lord Solandrin, initiates of Lady Larina, formally and ritually hived from Ravenwood with the love, support, and blessings of many Craft Elders and Craft brothers and sisters. Grove of the Willow Wood found its home near Dahlonega, GA, and celebrated its first sabbat on Mabon 2008. Since that time, Grove of the Willow Wood has continued the tradition of Ravenwood by offering classes, full-moon and sabbat rituals, and public outreach.
Because
of the growth of the Ravenwood Tradition, and the numerous daughter
and sister groups that have formed in the decades since Ravenwoods'
inception, Lady Sintana, Lord Merlin and other Elders in the
Ravenwood Tradition re-evaluated the Ravenwood mission in November
2009. It was determined that with daughter groups
nationally, the Tradition had grown beyond the original scope and
mission of the church itself. In an effort to meet the ongoing
spiritual needs of the group and the larger vision of the
corporation, Lady Larina and Lord Gaelin, along with all active
participating initiates of Ravenwood Church & Seminary, formed a
new coven within the Tradition – the House of RavenStone. This move
left the original corporation open to expand its leadership structure
to include all daughter groups under Lady Sintana’s continued
guidance.
While Ravenwood no longer exists as an initiatory
coven, its teachings and mission are carried on in the daily work of
its numerous daughter groups which share common beliefs and
practices, but reflect the unique characteristics of the High
Priestesses and High Priests.
